Faith Leaders Advocacy Day
IVRF is sponsoring an advocacy day along with other faith-based and progressive groups at the NC General Assembly! Training will be provided in advance; all are welcome to attend. This will be an important opportunity to show that people of faith support reproductive freedom and gender affirming healthcare, and also show that we reject state funding for evangelical crisis pregnancy centers. Please organize carpools from your congregation, invite your clergy to join, and wear clerical clothing or anything identifying you as a member or leader of your faith group (ie stole, tallit, kippot, etc).

Rally in DC: Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic
On Wed. April 2nd, IVRF joined a rally while the Supreme Court heard Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, a case challenging whether patients can use Medicaid insurance for any healthcare in a Planned Parenthood clinic. A decision against PPSAT would have a profound negative impact; and will close clinics and deny millions of women access to reproductive healthcare and abortion.

The Kehillah Reproductive Freedom Team is hosting an outstanding line up of speakers will educate and enlighten you, answer your questions and offer ways for each of us to fight for reproductive freedom in our own state. There will be a bagel nosh while we will put together “Abortion Patient Care Bags” for Planned Parenthood clients.

Pregnant Bodies: Art, Faith, and Reproductive Justice
An exhibit organized by Duke Memorial United Methodist exploring questions of bodily autonomy and the sacredness of the pregnant body, of sexuality, and the choice of parenthood; intersectionality and the ways that reproductive (in)justice affects minority and/or marginalized groups; personal narratives of pregnancy, loss, parenthood, and choice; and questions of faith as they relate to reproduction. The exhibit will be on display through September 13th, 2024.

Bad Faith Screening
Eno River UU Fellowship is hosting a screening of Bad Faith, a highly acclaimed documentary that reveals how Christian Nationalism has become one of the most powerful political forces in the nation by spreading fear and anger, and distorting political issues into battles between good and evil. Special guest for Saturday screening: Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, Executive Director of UU Justice NC. A Q&A session with Rev. Garcia-Sampson will follow the Saturday screening.

Side with Love Carolina Abortion Fund Benefit Concert
IVRF member congregation Binkley Baptist Church will be hosting the Sterling Trio on violin, cello, and piano. Performing music by Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Paul Schoenfeld (an American jazz composer), A free-will offering will take place, proceeds to benefit the Carolina Abortion Fund which helps women in financial straits to get the medical care they need.

Voter Empowerment Training
IVRF member Community Church of Chapel Hill UU is hosting You Can Vote’s hour-long training designed to mobilize volunteers with how to educate and empower the community for upcoming elections. This comprehensive training begins at 1PM to educate participants in You Can Vote’s work and key messages, a thorough understanding of how to properly fill out a voter registration form, best practices and the voter ID rules for this year! This training is for those looking to learn more about You Can Vote, updated voting rules, and best practices in voter registration, as well as those interested in volunteering with YCV voter registration events.

Bad Faith Documentary Screening
BAD FAITH is a feature-length documentary that explores the dangerous rise of Christian Nationalism in the United States. Part archival chronicle, part exposé, the film reveals the secretive political machinery that has relentlessly sought to weaken and destroy American democracy in order to promote its authoritarian vision. The cast includes religious leaders, historians, investigative journalists, state senators, political activists, sociologists, and a former high-ranking member of the Trump administration. They will guide us on a revelatory journey into why our nation is so divided and how it got there. Several have dedicated their lives to challenging Christian Nationalism’s theocratic vision for America and the film chronicles their actions.

The Turnaway Play
The Duke Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and ACLU-NC hosted a reading of the Turnaway play, followed by a panel discussion about abortion access in NC. The panel included Dr. Diana Greene Foster, the author of the groundbreaking Turnaway Study, which followed 1,000 women over ten years and reached the first definitive scientific conclusions about the consequences for women’s lives of either having or being denied abortions.

Binkley Baptist Church, an IVRF member congregation, screened The Janes, a documentary detailing a pre-Roe v. Wade underground network of care that helped an estimated 11,000 women with unwanted pregnancies.

Defend Mifepristone Rally
IVRF organized a rally in protest of a US Supreme Court hearing concerning access to mifepristone and the FDA’s regulatory authority. Over 80 people participated in the rally, Defend Medication Abortion. Attendees came from interfaith congregations from throughout the Triangle area. Speakers delivered remarks from their perspective of their faith and why they support a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and reproductive healthcare

Reproductive Justice Shabbat and Kiddush Discussion
Kehillah Synagogue held a Kiddush discussion titled “A Faith Based Look at the Post-Roe Future in America” with Reverend Allen Brimer from the Church of Reconciliation and Dr. Rachel Posner, Rabbi and Clinical Psychologist. Kehillah congregant Dr. Matt Zerden also shared updates about his work with Planned Parenthood. This annual Shabbat, organized by the National Council of Jewish Women, coincides with the Torah portion Mishpatim, which lays the foundation for Judaism’s approach to reproductive health, rights and justice.

On what would have been the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, IVRF mobilized over 100 supporters in Raleigh to show that people of faith support abortion access.

IVRF hosted a symposium in which dozens of supporters gathered to hear from experts in the fields of theology and reproductive justice. Together, we learned how we can further engage ourselves and others in this movement.
